Privacy Policy

Bevail is a dictation app. That means it can hear what you say — so privacy isn't a compliance checkbox for us, it's the product's core design constraint. This policy explains what data Bevail touches, where it goes, and what we keep.
The short version
- Free tier: nothing leaves your Mac. Speech recognition runs entirely on-device. We don't require an account and we receive no audio, transcripts, or usage data.
- Pro tier: only voiced audio is transmitted, and only to perform the transcription or text-improvement you requested. A voice-activity gate ensures silence and background noise are never recorded or sent.
- We never sell your data and never use your audio or transcripts to train models.
Data processed on your device
Dictation history, your custom dictionary, app preferences, and any learned entities are stored locally on your Mac. History auto-deletes after 30 days by default; you can shorten this, extend it, or keep no history at all in Settings. Deleting the app deletes this data.
Data processed by our servers (Pro)
When you use Pro features, requests route through the Bevail gateway:
- Audio: voiced segments are streamed to our speech-to-text provider to produce your transcript, then discarded. Audio is not stored on our servers.
- Transcripts: when you use AI polish or action-item extraction, the transcript text is sent to a language-model provider to produce the result, then discarded. Transcripts are not stored on our servers.
- Metering: we record that your license performed an action (a counter per license per month) to enforce plan quotas. This contains no content.
Billing data
Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. We store your license key, its subscription status, and the email associated with your purchase so we can deliver and support your license. See Stripe's privacy policy for how Stripe handles payment data.
Ambient features
Ambient Assist (background listening) is off by default and strictly opt-in. When enabled, a persistent indicator is shown whenever Bevail is listening, the same voice-activity gate applies (silence is never recorded), and extracted action items are stored locally on your device.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or share your personal data with third parties for their own purposes.
- We don't use your audio or transcripts to train machine-learning models.
- We don't run third-party advertising or tracking on our website or in the app.
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of the account data we hold (license and billing records) by emailing support@bevail.com. On-device data is under your control directly.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date above. Material changes to how Pro data is handled will be announced in the app.
