AI dictation for macOS
Speak. Polished text lands in any app.
Hit one hotkey and talk. Bevail turns your voice into clean, improved writing — right where your cursor is. Free and fully on-device, with Pro speed and AI polish when you want them.
Free tier never sends audio anywhere. macOS 14+.
How it works
From voice to finished writing in three beats
Press your hotkey
A small pill appears at the bottom of your screen with a live waveform. Your app keeps focus the whole time.
Say it like you'd say it
Umms, restarts, thinking out loud — all fine. Words stream in as you speak. Press esc anytime to discard.
Polished text appears
Bevail cleans up your transcript and types the result where your cursor is. In Mail it reads like email; in Slack it stays you.
Features
Built for people who think faster than they type
One hotkey, any app
Hit your hotkey, speak, and text lands where your cursor is. Toggle or push-to-talk — the shortcut is yours to choose. The HUD never steals focus from what you're doing.
AI polish, your voice
Raw speech becomes finished writing. Four styles — Cleanup, Professional, Concise, Email — with per-app defaults so Slack stays casual and Mail stays sharp.
Silence is never recorded
A voice-activity gate opens only when you actually speak. Coughs, keyboard clatter, and quiet rooms never hit the recognizer — or the network.
Fast streaming transcription
Pro streams your speech to a purpose-built English engine and lands words as you say them. Free tier transcribes fully on-device.
Action items, automatically
Opt-in Ambient Assist scans what you say for to-dos and action items — so 'remind me to send the deck' becomes a task, not a memory test.
Your dictionary, your history
Teach it names and jargon with a custom dictionary. History auto-deletes on your schedule — 30 days by default, or keep nothing at all.
Privacy by design
The microphone is sacred. We treat it that way.
Dictation tools hear everything you say. Bevail is engineered so that trust is structural, not a promise buried in a policy.
- Free tier is 100% on-device. Speech recognition runs locally. Nothing leaves your Mac. No account required.
- Silence never leaves the gate. A voice-activity detector opens only for actual speech — quiet rooms and background noise are never recorded, transcribed, or transmitted.
- Ambient is opt-in, always indicated. Background listening is off by default, and a persistent indicator shows whenever Bevail is listening.
- Your history, your rules. Dictation history auto-deletes after 30 days by default — dial it to zero to keep nothing.
- Keys stay server-side. Pro requests route through our gateway; no provider API keys ever live on your machine.

FAQ
Questions, answered
Is Bevail free?
Yes. The free tier runs entirely on your Mac — on-device speech recognition, no account, no data leaving your machine. Pro adds fast cloud transcription and AI polish for $10/month.
Does Bevail work in every app?
Yes. Bevail types wherever your cursor is — Mail, Slack, Notion, your code editor, a browser text field. There's nothing to integrate; if you can type there, you can dictate there.
What does the AI polish step do?
Pro sends your raw transcript through a language model that removes filler, fixes grammar, and reshapes it in the style you choose — Cleanup, Professional, Concise, or Email. You can set a different style per app, like casual in Slack and formal in Mail.
Is my voice data private?
On the free tier, audio never leaves your Mac. On Pro, only voiced audio is streamed for transcription — a voice-activity gate ensures silence is never recorded or sent. Ambient features are off by default and strictly opt-in, with a persistent indicator whenever listening.
What are the system requirements?
macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel. Bevail needs Microphone permission to hear you and Accessibility permission to type into other apps — a three-step onboarding walks you through both. Windows, iOS, and Android versions are on the roadmap.
